How many session will I need?Each individual brings their own unique challenges, so there isn't a single time-frame to feel better. At a minimum, I recommend people begin with 5 sessions, this is a good time frame for you to begin integrating what you've learnt into your life. Those who have regular sessions and do the assigned practices have a tendency to progress quicker. A key part of nervous system regulation is CHOICE, you’re welcome to stay as long or short as you like. This work is here to support you whole-heartedly. Some people enjoy ongoing support (6-12 months) particularly if you are learning to be 'in your body' again a long period of time being disembodied and are seeking an ongoing therapeutic relationship to support you in your trauma healing journey . Others find great benefit from having a few months of sessions. It's up to you. 😁 There is the option to book a single session before booking a package.

What does a session look like?What to expect: I use a bottom-up approach to get your body and mind back in harmony—acquiring information from the body's sensations to reduce stress and shift emotions, leaving a cascading effect on your thinking. Our sessions take place online and typically span 60 to 75 minutes. Together, we'll identify the central themes you wish to explore, and I encourage you to incorporate your day-to-day experiences into our discussions. At the start of each session, we engage in a somatic awareness activity, which serves as an initial step in inviting your body into our conversation. You can expect a blend of body-focused exercises and verbal reflections throughout our time together. These may include practices like interoception (your internal sensing ability), co-regulation, subtle movements, or any other somatic techniques mentioned in the Balancewise Somatic Healing Guide. These activities aim to help you establish a deeper connection with your body, enhancing your understanding of your internal experiences and supporting the therapeutic process. The sessions tend to progress naturally, shifting from one technique or topic to another. The most effective sessions unfold without rigid expectations, allowing for a fluid and spontaneous exploration. During these sessions, there is freedom for topics to transition unexpectedly. For instance, a session initially centred around trauma might evolve into a dialogue, or discussions about work-related issues might lead back to childhood experiences. I encourage and support you to remain present and engaged with whatever surfaces from the unconscious mind in the present moment. The focus is on what naturally emerges. I meet you where you are emotionally and facilitate each session with a trauma-informed lens. What is Somatic Healing Therapy?Somatic Therapy helps us develop a new relationship with ourselves. We take an approach of curiosity and compassion with our goal not to fix or figure out but to feel and push for change. By addressing how you feel your thinking will organically follow this lead. Somatics helps you understand how your body responds to stress and how to work with these sensations and survival responses. We work together to slowly increase tolerance for uncomfortable bodily sensations and suppressed emotions while facilitating the release of trapped survival energy stuck in the body. You will learn practical somatic tools to support you and your nervous system in your daily life, allowing you to shift away from old survival patterns to experience life feeling more grounded, safe, and present.
